About the Gallery

Nora Gallery, the first gallery in Jerusalem, was established in 1943

in the residence of the painter Ludwig Jonas,a short while after he passed away.The Gallery, under the name "Jonas Gallery" represented

at that time the artists Macel Janco, Jacob Steinhardt, Jacob Pins, Ashheim,Mokadi and others.

In 1952 the gallery moved to its present location, and since then over 400 exhibitions of artists from Israel and from all over the world, were held in the premises.

Among the artists were, Elizabeth Epstein a blue rider's member, (Munich 1911) After Nora, the owner and director of the gallery, passed away in 1980, her daughter Dina Hanoch took over and presented over 240 exhibitions ever since.

Nora Gallery is characterized by its high quality pluralism.

The gallery was the first to exhibit artists from all over the world.

mostly contemporary artists from France, Germany Austria, Italy, Malta, Sweden,Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Hungary, United States and more.

The gallery has been an open stage for art installations such as: Roly Nativ's "Red Snow", a political exhibition held in Aug 1983 while the Lebanon war was taken place.

Ziva Kronzon Sasha Lisiyansky's theatrical installation on Dec 1993,

Haya Ester's installation that combined painting, poetry and music on May 1993, and more. In the past twenty five years the Gallery has held group exhibitions based on a cross section of the works of the artists exhibited during the sixty four year of existence. Among the artist were also , Joseph Budko, Yehuda Bacon, Herman Struck, Leopold krakauer,

Jacob Pins and others.
